Grid Project


For my grid project, I had my mom take a picture of my pride flag from home and send it to me; to recreate it in a grid format, I got Skittles and M&M's and formed them in the sequence of colors of the pride flag, from red to purple. I was going to use thumb tacks originally, but I figured since the Skittles slogan is "taste the rainbow" I had to utilize using them.

Xerox Project

For this project, I drew inspiration from Plant Park when I was there hammocking. I used my hand fingers overlapping each other for the grass, my arm in a couple of different positions for the palm tree, my hands for the leaves, and my fingers for the circle and the rays of the sun. This piece is inspired by the surrealist movement since it is out of the ordinary and I had to get creative to come up with an idea for this project.

Performance Video

https://youtu.be/-h6ABOyV7hQ For this performance piece, I decided to go outside at night and "tan." I think the idea behind performance in general is to go outside your comfort zone and adapt to the uncomfortable. It might be awkward when other people are around and maybe are watching, which is what I was feeling, but after it's done you realize it wasn't too terrible and you stepped outside your comfort a little more than you thought you would. I drew inspiration from Leigh Bowery at Doffay, which includes women dressed in all body suits looking into the camera/maybe taking a nap. This is like my performance piece since I was not in typical clothing that one would wear to tan, just like how they were in abnormal clothing for sleeping. Also, technology was not a huge aspect of my performance piece or Leigh Bowery at Doffay; the only technology used for both was a camera to film, and I also included a speaker and my phone to play music.
